With the office building “Trehus”, an architectural statement for sustainable construction is taking shape in the heart of Maidenhead, UK. As part of the One Maidenhead masterplan, developed by HUB and Smedvig, the approximately 6,000 m² project sets new standards for ecological office spaces in the UK.
The name “Trehus” – Norwegian for “wooden house” – says it all: the building is entirely based on wood as its primary construction material. This decision significantly reduces CO₂ emissions compared to conventional construction methods and underscores the ambition to achieve net-zero emissions over the entire lifecycle.
For the timber construction, HESS TIMBER, a company of the HASSLACHER group, was commissioned by general contractor Glencar. High-performance timber products from the HASSLACHER group are being used, including cross-laminated timber and HASSLACHER BauBuche. The latter, thanks to its excellent mechanical properties, enables particularly slender column cross-sections and contributes to optimizing the structural volume.
Designed by Waugh Thistleton Architects, the building aims for the highest sustainability certifications – including BREEAM Outstanding and FITWEL 3 stars. Trehus thus exemplifies the future of urban timber construction and the innovation it brings.
