Cycle Highway Bertem – Precision, Expertise, and Logistics from a Single Source
As part of the infrastructure project to realize the F203 high-speed cycle connection between Brussels and Bertem in Belgium, a pioneering timber bridge has been constructed. It forms the crowning finale of a continuous, safe, and comfortable cycling infrastructure along the European Route E40.
A Forward-Looking Project
Commissioned by De Werkvennootschap, the project was supported from its initial conception through to execution planning by the interdisciplinary joint venture THV MoVeR0 (Sweco, Arcadis & ZJA Architects). The construction was carried out by Viabuild.
Particular attention was paid to ecological integration and architectural quality: the choice of wood as the primary material for the bridge structure not only creates a harmonious overall appearance in the green surroundings but also makes an active contribution to sustainable construction.
Contribution by the HASSLACHER Group
For this demanding infrastructure project, the HASSLACHER Group supplied over 150 m³ of glued laminated timber in the form of special custom-made components. The centerpiece consists of two composite bridge girders, each approximately 30 m long, 2.6 m wide, and 1.0 m high, manufactured at the HASSLACHER Group’s Hermagor site. Each girder weighs around 35 tons – precision, expertise, and logistics from a single source.
With the Cycle Highway Bridge in Bertem, the HASSLACHER Group reinforces its leading role in modern timber engineering – innovative, ecological, economical, and forward-thinking.
