At the former site of the Salzburg-Umgebung district administration and the Salzburg state administration, a forward-looking office building is being constructed by 2026 on approximately 10,000 m² for up to 1,400 state employees. The new Regional Services Centre (LDZ) combines contemporary architecture with a well-thought-out functional concept, placing particular emphasis on sustainability, energy efficiency, and a healthy working environment. Although groundbreaking only took place in early 2024, the building design was already awarded the “klimaaktiv Gold” certification in 2023 by the climate protection initiative of the Republic of Austria, achieving 982 out of 1,000 possible points. The project thus makes a significant contribution to the urban enhancement of Salzburg’s railway station district and serves as a pioneering model for future-oriented construction.
Once completed, the new administrative building—with 13 floors (ten above ground, three underground)—will be considered the most modern of its kind in Austria. Built using an innovative timber-hybrid construction method, the structure will span a net usable area of around 50,000 square meters and incorporate 2,500 timber beams and 540 timber columns. The impressive scale is reflected in the details: 17,200 steps, 13 elevators, and nearly 1,800 doors will define this architectural landmark.
The ground floor will feature a spacious, citizen-orientated service center that consolidates key services of the state administration in one location. Its direct proximity to the train station ensures easy access via public transport for both citizens and employees. In addition to modern office and conference areas, the LDZ will also include an on-site kindergarten and an internal logistics hub.
For this project, the HASSLACHER group supplied a total of 1,400 m³ of visual-grade spruce glued laminated timber and 220 m³ of HASSLACHER BauBuche, all pre-cut, surface-finished, and equipped with pre-assembled steel parts and fasteners. These components were manufactured at the Sachsenburg site (NORITEC Holzindustrie) and in Kleinheubach (HASSLACHER Holzbauteile).
