Bosch Denmark Headquarters – Office Building in Hybrid Timber Construction with Glulam
Hybrid Timber Construction for Modern Work Environments in Denmark
In Ballerup, Denmark, a new headquarters was developed for Bosch Denmark with a gross floor area of approximately 10,725 m². The three storey office building was designed as a hybrid timber structure, combining modern working environments with a clearly structured load bearing concept.
The combination of a glulam structural system and selectively used concrete elements brings together the advantages of timber construction with the structural requirements for sound insulation and lateral stability. The primary structure made of glued laminated timber (glulam, BSH) remains visible over large areas and significantly defines the architectural character of the office building.
Glulam Structural System for Commercial Buildings – Scope of Services of the HASSLACHER group
HESS TIMBER, a company of the HASSLACHER group based in Kleinheubach (Germany), was involved from an early stage and supported the coordination between architecture, structural engineering and erection planning. For the office building in Denmark, the company developed the complete glulam structural system and covered the entire scope of services, from early consultancy and structural design through to production and delivery.
A key focus was on erection oriented planning. Connection details, tolerances and assembly sequences were precisely defined to ensure an efficient construction process on site.
At the HASSLACHER group’s production facility in Kleinheubach (HASSLACHER Holzbauteile GmbH & Co. KG), the following were processed:
• 479 m³ of glued laminated timber, and
• 12,026 kg of steel connections and fasteners, largely pre assembled in the factory.
The prefabricated components were delivered in a coordinated installation sequence, allowing the glulam structural system to be erected efficiently and just in time.
Hybrid Timber Construction with Prefabrication – The Office Building as a Carbon Store
The glulam structure forms the primary load bearing system of the three storey office building and makes the renewable building material visible within the interior spaces. The carbon contained in the timber remains stored over the entire service life of the building.
A high degree of prefabrication – including CNC machining, factory pre assembled steel connections and clearly defined interfaces – supported short erection times and a high level of dimensional accuracy.
The exposed glulam structure demonstrates how hybrid timber construction systems can be implemented with technical precision and economic efficiency in multi storey office and commercial buildings.
