Beneath the striking Barangaroo Reserve in Sydney, the Cutaway is emerging as a new cultural hotspot, set to become one of the city’s most significant venues for arts and events. The New South Wales Government is pursuing an ambitious vision with its transformation: a multifunctional space for exhibitions, installations, festivals, and major cultural gatherings.
The visionary architectural design by fjcstudio combines innovation, functionality, and a deep connection to the cultural heritage of the First Nations. The project is being delivered by the NSW Government in partnership with FDC Construction & Fitout, and includes three levels of flexible event spaces, galleries, an education centre, and modern office space.
Timber Engineering at Its Finest
HESS TIMBER, a Member of the HASSLACHER group, is making a significant contribution to the architectural quality of the project with the delivery of a technically and aesthetically sophisticated freeform timber structure. This construction not only reflects the highest level of craftsmanship but also honours the cultural significance of the First Nations and supports the sustainable vision of the Barangaroo precinct.
Technical Implementation
A total of around 305 m³ of glued laminated timber were used. The elements were produced at HASSLACHER group’s facilities in Kleinheubach and Stall im Mölltal, adhering to the highest quality standards.
